Democracy is Coming, to K.P.F.A.... - Re: [KPFA Staff] KPFA BUDGET & LAYOFFS
It's long overdue:
The 'secret list' is the really the long-withheld Staff Seniority List,
which will determine who will be served, and who will weep.

Program changes are not under consideration at this time. The only issue
under consideration is cuts due to income shortfall.

FYI-your reminder that “KPFA staff & unpaid staff please maintain your
integrity, dignity, & professionalism at all times” is wise advice.
However, know this—that I and many of my on-air colleagues were
dismayed and offended that our names were not included in the list of
those producers of what most of us consider to be the best and, not
coincidentally most supported programs KPFA is airing—which the LSB
recommended be laid-off, and that our continued participation should
also be considered in whatever decision is reached.
Best,

"Program changes are not under consideration at this time. The only issue under consideration is cuts due to income shortfall. "
THAT is the problem. Those that make up the bulk of the donor base get a different sort of vote. They can choose to donate or not to donate. So at some level it doesn't matter what the rest of us decide unless we are able and willing to back up that decision with our dollars.
Layoffs in a union shop have nothing to do with the preferences of donors.
