Time:
4:30 PM - 5:00 PM
Event Type:
Protest
Organizer/Author:
Matt Rosen
Location Details:
WHERE: Rally at PlumpJack Wines, 4011 24th Street at Noe St., in Noe Valley
DATE: This Monday - 9/20/10
TIME: Meet at 4:15 pm and we’ll end @ 5:15pm.

Dear allies,

The Board of Supervisors passed the SF Alcohol Mitigation fee by a 7-3 vote last Tuesday, but we are not done yet. Mayor Newsom says he will veto this legislation, and there are not enough votes to override it—you need eight.

Supervisor Alioto-Pier—who’s family is in the wine business—declared a conflict of interest and abstained from voting last Tuesday. The Mayor should do the same.

Why should the mayor recuse himself and let the legislation pass?

The Mayor has significant financial interests in the alcohol business. His millions of alcohol related investments present a similar conflict of interest as Supervisor Alioto-Pier. His company, Plumpjack Group, owns 12 separate establishments that either make, sell or distribute alcohol. His businesses include 2 wineries, 8 bars and restaurants, and 2 wine shops. Four of these establishments are in San Francisco.

Please join YLI and other prevention and treatment organizations to deliver a strong message that the Mayor should do nothing and let the 7-3 vote stand. We hope you can make it!

PLEASE RSVP so we know how many signs we need.
