Affirming Religious Freedom in America Sunday, September 12th, 2010
We write to you on behalf of an informal interfaith dialogue group in Santa Cruz County to join a community-wide affirmation and celebration of religious diversity and freedom in America, and in support of the civil rights of Muslims and all others to practice their faith among us without fear or intimidation here in our community & in the United States.
We believe that hate speech, threats, intimidation or violence against any religious group to freely practice its faith and to legally acquire property for this purpose is reprehensible and in violation of the core principles of all religious faiths and of our democracy.
Please join us on Sunday afternoon at 5:00 p.m. on September 12th. at the Santa Cruz City town clock for a peaceful, public witness to these important principles of freedom and solidarity. Representatives from several religious traditions will speak and a proclamation from the Santa Cruz Mayor’s office affirming religious freedom and diversity in Santa Cruz will be read at this public event.
