Cine+Mas Film Festival and the Mission Cultural Center welcome the award winning Mexican Director Alberto Cortes to the San Francisco premiere of his film, Corazon del tiempo. The screening is part of the second annual Cine+Mas/ San Francisco Latino Film Festival.
Corazon del tiempo enjoyed its US premiere at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival. The film is a rare and intimate journey into the heart of the Zapatista uprising in Chiapas, Mexico. Nominated for five Ariel Awards in Mexico, Corazon follows the plight of Sonia, a young indigenous woman who is about to enter into an arranged marriage. Her father has already delivered a dowry to the family of the groom. However, when Sonia falls in love with a Zapatista militant, her family, her community and the Zapatistas must negotiate the sticky terrain between age old social conventions and emerging social realities. The film reveals that the roots of struggle for political freedom are born out of the tangle of desires to live with a free heart. Corazon is unique in that it features a cast of non-professional local actors drawn from indigenous communities in and around where the film was produced. The film's cinemato-graphic feats capture the beauty and essence of rural life near the Lacondon Jungle, a world seldom visited by even the most ambitious tourists. Q and A discussion with Producers Alberto Cortes and Ana Solares follows all Bay Area screenings. Spanish with English subtitles (90 min).
