Independents for Community Radio

by ICR Supporter
There is an alternative. Independents for Community Radio has assembled a great, diverse team of organizers, academics and radio professionals to get a grip on things and revitalize KPFA.
Save KPFA, whose real name is Concerned Listeners, has run KPFA into the ground. They dominated the board for two years in 2008-2009, passed budgets calling for massive staff layoffs due to declining contributions, and then sat on their hands for 15 months
while the reductions didn't happen.

The station blew through a million dollars in less than a year and a half.

A million dollars in listener donations. *All* the cash in the bank.

They're *saving* KPFA from their own self-created disaster.

Save KPFA thinks boards can't insist that budgets be followed.

Save KPFA thinks staff shouldn't be held accountable for leaving large checks uncashed in their desks until they expire,

Save KPFA blocked an investigation into the police beating of a volunteer producer on KPFA's premises because it wasn't the board's "business".

They are advocates for irresponsbility and dereliction of duty. Thats their track record on KPFA's board.

There is an alternative. Independents for Community Radio has assembled a great, diverse team of organizers, academics, labor activists, and radio professionals to get a grip on things and revitalize KPFA. More at http://www.voteindyradio.org.

2011 Independents for Community Goals

*Generate and support local, hard-hitting, radical journalism right here in the Bay*

*Prioritize coverage of - and collaborative program generation with - underrepresented Bay Area communities that have little access to other media*

*Allocate resources to support volunteer programmers by covering production expenses, supplies and transportation, to increase KPFA's reach - sustainably.

*Set up digital channels to trial-run new show ideas, offer special events for specific audiences, and build training opportunities for newer programmers.*

*Budget conservatively for tough economic times and rebuild the rainy day reserve.*

*Work cooperatively with the Pacifica Foundation. Due to YOUR hard work, Pacifica is now member-elected and accountable at every level. The time to spit at Pacifica is over. Now is the time to collaborate in increasing the scope of this national progressive media voice and support Democracy Now, Free Speech Radio News, and our over 60 years of progressive heritage in sound.*
