At a meeting of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors Rules Committee on 8/5/2010 ,
BAVC SF Commons supervisor Jennifer Giloman declared that a community access
producer Nick ;Pasquariello had never been a producer at the channel. This was despite
the fact that the San Francisco Sunshine Commission had ruled that BAVC had violated
the Sunshine Ordinance for refusing to turn over financial documents and correspondence
to Pasquariello. This was a violation of the ordinance. Pasquariello had also asked for
information about where the scanned drivers license at BAVC was used. BAVC supporter
Howard Vicini also attacked Tracy Rosenberg, Executive Director of Media Alliance for
criticizing the lack of transparency and controls on the city funds being expended on
BAVC for operating the community access channels. BAVC was seeking $375,000 from
a settlement with Comcast for Community Access Television.

Steve Zeltzer is just plain pissed off because his band of anarchists didn't get selected to run public access. His non-profit California Coalition for Workers Memorial Day is listed as suspended with the Secretary of State. How do you expect him to run a public access facility when he can't run something as simple as that. And he isn't exactly technologically oriented either. Everyone else has accepted the fact that post DIVCA, it will not be business as usual as it used to be. Steve, accept the fact and move on with your life!
It's easy to participate in public access television. And many producers do -- they come into our facilities and are productive, use the equipment, training, and services we provide to produce excellent programming for SF Commons. Unfortunately, it is also easy to create rumors and lies that detract from our work and our ability to serve others.
Here is the actual transcript from what I stated at the hearing:
"It is coming from Nick Pasquariello, who spoke earlier. He had sent a letter to BAVC, and several letters usually via unauthorized fax demanding we communicate with him via certified post to his post office box, and he claimed we scanned his ID, which we never did. When we took over the station, we inherited seven filing cabinets that were completely full of photocopies of people' s drivers' licenses, dating back to the early 1990's. The previous operator required everyone, every single time they submitted a show, to basically prove they are San Francisco residents by photocopying their IDs. So we systematically shredded all of those documents. We still require that people provide a proof of residence, that is a requirement for people to prove they are a San Francisco resident to receive these services. But Mr. Pasquariello is not even a member of BAVC. He has not gone through the complete process of becoming a member. So his ID is not in our database. We do not have anything from him except for his post office box and his name. When he went to the Sunshine Task Force, he was submitting this complaint that he didn't receive documents that he had requested from us and the Sunshine Board basically told him he is supposed to request those document through the Department of Technology- those documents to the Department of Technology. He failed to do so and went to the Sunshine Board with a subsequent complaint about the same issue. So its more stuff that we have to continuously deal with, and pay a lawyer to deal with to be at his beck and call."
That is all factually true. And it is a shame, that our time and resources are spent defending ourselves against such attacks rather than serving people who need help and who want to be productive contributors and creators. If you'd like to be one of those people, we encourage you to come and check us out: http://bavc.org/sfcommons.
