Arnieville resurrection

Date:
Friday, August 06, 2010
Time:
12:00 PM - 12:00 AM
Event Type:
Vigil/Ritual
Organizer/Author:
Zachary Running Wolf
Location Details:
Adeline St. & Oregon St., Berzerkeley

The TUK-PIKUNI (tree people) are at it again. 2 banner drops have taken place this week (August 2nd & 4th, noon 'till 2, @ the Berkeley I-80 pedestrian\bike overpass) to alert the driving\flying populace that they are driving\flying global warming & oil wars.

How many times do we gotta say it?

STOP F***ING DRIVING!!

ATTN: THE GOVERNATOR IS NOT TERMINATING HIS SHENANIGANS. So, like the Terminator, Arnieville cannot and will not be permanently killed off. So, in defense of the homeless, the elderly, the so-called `disabled`, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, MOTHER EARTH, at noontime on Friday, August 6th (Hiroshima day), the TUK-PIKUNI, along with others, are going to to resurrect Arnieville, @ the intersection of Adeline St. & Oregon St. in Berzerkeley, across Adeline from the now non-union Berkeley Bowl.

And this time, Arnieville will NOT BE TERMINATED.

Is the theme of Arno-ville the cutting of funds for assistants to the disabled, or is it vehicular traffic, or is it high rental prices/homelessness?

What is the symbolic or logistical significance of that intersection?

The bus drivers keep going on strike - this basic infrastructure is necessary to reduce individual car trips, in case driving is the main theme of the tree camp

Apparently "c" does not understand about what is going on with the Bus Drivers. Her/His Analysis is without compassion. Bus Drivers have suffered pay cuts, AC Transit imposed a contract on them, and many are working long hours. It really bothers me when someone like "c" does not understand class solidarity and transfers blame to another oppressed group(the workers) rather than building political alliances with other people. Just another example of Progressives passive-aggressive attacks on each other rather rather than put the blame where it belongs.

Arnieville is about all those things and more.

I started Arnieville for a few reasons.

To give people that could not get to Sacramento an outlet for their fears and frustrations right here in town.

Bring all types of people together.

Create news "Buzz" and educate the public.

Arnieville ended up being to longest protest by disabled people in U.S. history. I am proud of that and all the people that made it happen.
