Help Gulf Sea Turtles - SF Benefit Art Show Volunteers Needed!

by Sea Turtle Restoration Project (ArtShow [at] seaturtles.org)
Volunteers are needed to help run our Gulf Benefit Art Show + Sale and Silent Auction in San Francisco Saturday, August 14, 2010. All proceeds from this event will go towards the Sea Turtle Restoration Project's on going efforts to help protect sea turtles from the Gulf Oil Spill, and restore their populations and habitat.
Date: Saturday, August 14, 2010
Time: 12:00 pm – 6:00 pm
Location: Beautiful private courtyard at 10 Arkansas Street at 16th Street San Francisco, CA

Description/Key Responsibilities
We are seeking volunteers to help with hanging art exhibits, silent auction, registering artists, set up/clean up, bus glasses and provide general support. Help is needed on Friday, August 13 and Saturday August 14, 2010, with shifts around 3 to 4 hours. Placing posters in San Francisco until the day of the event is also needed.

Objective
The Sea Turtle Restoration Project is working nonstop to protect sea turtles in the Gulf of Mexico from the tragic BP Oil Spill. You can help, by helping us run our Gulf Sea Turtle Benefit Art Show + Sale and Silent Auction and by getting the word out about this great free event. Proceeds from this event will support the Sea Turtle Restoration Project’s work to rescue and protect sea turtles from the Gulf oil spill, and to restore their populations and habitat.

Organization Information
The Sea Turtle Restoration Project has already taken successful legal action to end the burning of live sea turtles in oil burn operations and organized scientific input into the protocol for burn operations. Efforts are continuing to conduct on-water and aerial surveillance to document evidence of the oil spill’s impact on sea turtles and other marine species; also ensuring other impacts, such as shrimp fishing, does not further imperil the highly endangered Kemp’s Ridley sea turtles. STRP is working to hold BP accountable and demand they provide adequate resources to save and rehabilitate sea turtles and other marine wildlife.

Requirements
- Volunteers need to be at least 12 years old, and those under 16 years old are required to have a parent.
- Volunteers need to work a 3-4 hour shift.
- We are putting out a special call to volunteers with experience hanging art exhibits or with carpentry skills.

Additional Information
This benefit show and auction is free and open to the public. Fifteen fine artists and craftspeople will exhibit their work. Vendors will serve artisan street food on site, and music and presentations are scheduled throughout the afternoon. Don’t miss the reception from 4 to 6 pm and the silent auction with over 60 one of a kind art works and crafts, which closes at 5 pm. This is a free event.
