There are some good organizations raising money to help the working-class and poor Haitians who survived the earthquake to rebuild their lives and their popular organizations. But there are many more that are using whatever money they raise, or that part of it that doesn't go to pay inflated staff salaries, to strengthen neo-colonial institutions in that country.

I don't know which organizations the money from this benefit is going to. If it's the Haiti Emergency Relief Fund or Partners in Health, that's fine and well worth supporting. If, however, it's something like the Red Cross, or an NGO that works with the U.S. occupation force, I strongly recommend against giving them a cent. I would especially warn against supporting the opportunist Wyclef Jean and his Yéle Haiti front group.

Regardless of what you decide about this benefit, I would urge those who can afford to do so to donate money to the Haiti Emergency Relief Fund at http://www.haitiaction.net/About/HERF/HERF.html.

We are 100% volunteer and depend on your participation to sustain our efforts!
