STEALING AMERICA, VOTE BY VOTE
by Dorothy Fadiman

Presented by Joy Newhart
from MoveOn

This alarming, but carefully reasoned, documentary does for American democracy what Inconvenient Truth did for global warming. Was the 2004 presidential election a complete travesty? Thousands of voters reported machine breakdowns as well as inaccurate totals in 42 states. Even more disturbing is the disparity between the vote count recorded by electronic machines and the vote count provided by exit polls. And over 90% of vote switches made by machines were in favor of George Bush. The technology that promised to make elections more accurate actually offered opportunities for voting manipulation that are thoroughly explored in this film’s meticulous indictment. A variety of poll workers, attorneys, and monitors testify to vote switching — but this crime was ignored by the American media. Serious irregularities occurred in 13 states including Florida but media commentators ignored it. The film concludes by exhorting us to “Take our Country Back.” According to Thomas Paine, “The right to vote… is the primary vote by which the other rights are protected.”
