Riot in Oakland After Killer Cop Gets "Involuntary Manslaughter" Charge (Rough Cut)
by Tom Vee
Thursday Jul 8th, 2010 10:33 PM
On January 1st 2009 Officer Johannes Mehserle shot Oscar Grant in the back after he was already handcuffed and on the ground. Today they announced that officer Mehserle was guilty of "involuntary manslaughter, not murder.

After hours of peaceful protesting the energy and frustration of the crowd became too intense to express in words. In this video you can see some windows being smashed and people looting a Foot Locker.

This is a rough cut. More video to come.

for accuracy, oscar grant was restrained, not handcuffed, when he was shot. he was only cuffed afterward.

and please do be mindful not to implicate people appearing in the video.

To the reporter - thanks for the footage! Good job.

To the protesters - oh yeah, you're all "fuck da po-LICE!" and that's great, but then some jackass smashes the window of a store and you... instantly cheer? And then people start robbing that store, and you.. cheer more? Fucking christ, a pig finally gets caught for the shit we keep saying happens all the time, and you fucks have to distract the already-feeble-minded public and media with this am-gonna-git-me-some-new-shoes-yeeeah bullshit?!

The pig Mehserle deserves to be shot - and so do you, right alongside him. You're both violent criminal scum bringing fear and harm to our neighborhoods, and we're caught in your fucking crossfire.

That includes all you spectators who cheered this shit on. If you represent the real people of Oakland, we're all fucked.

That clip is informative. It's mostly pretty fuzzy, and it lets you hear the mixture of conversation as it was happening. Also, people with professional cameras were getting better footage.
However, for other uploads, remember that you should be cautious about allowing any moving or still shots showing clothes and faces because it will be reviewed to find people who touched the store.

Self-censorship to benefit activists working in public, is one of the reasons Indymedia journalists get no credibility or respect. Biased partisan reporting is what we criticize Fox for, but Indymedia is just as guilty.

So I went out to broadway with my Justice 4 Oscar Grant the III sign which the Oakland was kind enough to leave on a bush for me. I talked with the minimum wage foot locker employees who were told when they came in to go home they would not be working and not getting paid. One worker has to split between two stores to live both part times so the company does not have to pay benefits. I tried my best to tell us and another employee confirmed that in the past the company has taken out extra insurance to make a profit when our anger at the oppression that started in this hemisphere from 1492 make no doubt spills over.

I am triggered and moving away from whether they are from the far east like walnut creek or danville but that euro americans started then run away like cowards which leads me to think they are as bad as the cops using our anger our struggle to get their kicks. I say kicks because of all the drinking if you need to be drunk to do aggressive direct action you are no revolutionary. Be on notice too the tension was high between the color line in the crowd to.

So my message to my (I hate labels) Anarchists family (I mean that I do have the most respect and would be beside you if I thought it would be sustainable) my message stay home we do not want you in this manner until you reach out to the community even your like political minded APOC and have some cosigner the cops are the least of your worries as far as retaliation. We want you but you have to engage with us not on your own. I know some of you and I know you do not recognize me I taught your siblings you are from well off families in the east bay. Oscar grant where you can make a degree of separation to get to the class struggle was about the BLACK struggle the brutality we face on a daily that you do not even know at your home.

So this long letter and some time on purpose aggressive in conclusion lets do it right if we are going to make a rally cry out of no justice no peace make it count cause it was very peaceful today business as usual and the racist sexist homophobic military prison corporation industrial complex system won yet again.

I look forward to responses Peace
