The murdering cop got about half off. Both KPFA and the SF Comical say basically the same thing: "Former BART police officer faces 5 to 14 years in prison...."

Maybe a bit less to HALF the PRISON TIME he deserves....but why should his punishment and rmediation for his vile acts stop with PrisoN?

I doubt that Mehserle has much of a life left after becoming a convicted FELON, who will certainly Be SUED for wrongful death.....and lose a large judgement. I know, money is not a substitute for justice, but it is a band aid for the short term pain.

It would be closer to Justice if Mehserle were bankrupted for life, banned from any Public Sector Jobs and had to turn over all earnings (above minimal subsistence) to the surviving Family of Oscar Grant, and go back to jail if he failed in his responsibility to support the survivors of his murder!

How long can we tolerate a system who hires the Murderers to be the Police (Shades of "Clockwork Orange)"!

The Police and Military need to SERVE THE WHOLE PEOPLE not the Politicians, Corporations and Rich Individuals!

He was convicted of two charges: Involuntary Manslaughter and Using a Gun in the Commision of a Crime.

The two charges together add up to a minimum of 5 years and a maximum of 14 years.

Pretty substantial jail time.

actually, probation is an option, and because of 1/2 time in california will probably only get two years tops.

did someone get bumped by a car? The KGO helicopter is showing someone who fell on the ground and is being given assistance. The crowd looks diverse in socioeconomic and race/ethnicity. The reporters don't appear alarmed and were being fair more than half the time, but cut off people using cuss words
