Support Gaza Flotilla Resolution before SF Board of Supervisors
The unthinkable has finally happened: The San Francisco Board of Supervisors, consisting of 1 Green and 10 Democrats, is considering a resolution condemning Israel, and it has the support of 6 people, including its sponsors, Supervisors Avalos and Maxwell. Please call, email, fax or send US mail to all 11 supervisors demanding they support this important milestone resolution as $6 billion from the US taxpayers supports this US military base called Israel to protect US oil profits in the Middle East.
The June 15, 2010 Board of Supervisors agenda had it as No. 43 and it is at

Both Richmond and Berkeley tabled their resolutions, for the most part claiming their constituency were not interested in foreign policy decisions. We've got a lot riding on San Francisco
Considering the Democratic and Republican Parties are 100% pro-Israel, many of us never thought we would see the day the actions of the US puppet, Israel, would even be discussed in any city council/board of supervisors. The fact that the Democrats refused to vote for it in Richmond and Berkeley should not surprise anyone. It is extraordinary that any resolution supporting the Gaza Flotilla was even brought in all 3 cities. 6 votes in San Francisco is not enough to override Democratic Mayor (and nephew of Rep Nancy Pelosi) Gavin Newsom's promised veto. You only need 4 supervisors to put it on the November ballot if you do it before the July deadline, however, do not expect it to succeed. If you watched San Francisco Cable Channel 26 on your TV or at
http://www.sfgovtv.org/index.aspx?page=69
you saw not only the pro-resolution speakers, who were excellent and clearly having written their own incisive speeches, but also the anti-resolution Zionists and their lackeys, all of whom were clearly following the exact same script, regardless of education, age or ethnic heritage. This is the Democratic Party machine that exists everywhere, and is just as reactionary as the Republican machine. They were clearly not there to give any heartfelt personal opinion but rather to make it clear that they are boss and they are willing and able to guarantee that votes either on the Board of Supervisor or in any election go their way, by hook or by crook.

Don't take this for granted! Put the pressure on the SF board, we CAN make a difference!
We lost Berkeley Divestment. We lost at the Berkeley City council. And we were organized. We mobilized the community. We had hundreds of people trained and ready. If we can't succeed in the Bay area, we need to sit down and reassess and reprioritize. The Bay area shoulda been a cakewalk for us. There are over 30,000 Palestinians living here.
We need ideas and new energy. What can we be doing differently? What SHOULD we be doing differnently?

The Vice mayor of Richmond, (I believe a Green ) withdrew his motion re Gaza yesterday . He said that after a walk on the beach with his partner he decided to withdraw his motion because it was too ''divisive '' . But all wasn't lost because he referred it to the Humans Rights Commission and they will report back in six months !
The Green party Mayor defended that action on KPFA , unchallenged by the Lackluster host Amy Allison .
What bullshit !!! Any motion , rally, ballot measure, strike , etc, will be ''divisive '' to some . The real reason for the surrender was undoubtly massive pressure and threats from the Israeli lobby and their local flunkies . It's a shame that even these Greens didn't have the honesty to say what actually happened .
If you want to attend a action that has the potential to strike a real political blow at the occupation and blockades make Saturday a early night and arrive at West Oakland BART at 5-30 am Sunday morning . From there we will proceed to a Mass (hopefully ! It's up to you ) Labor/Community picket at the Port of Oakland against the onloading of a Israeli Zim Lines ship due to arrive that day .

Would that have happened with Peace and Freedom?
A tremendous amount has been accomplished within less than 1 month. Before discussing what is next, remember there are SEVEN MILLION PEOPLE IN THE SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA, so if Wassem is sincere and not some Zionist spy, s/he would know that 30,000 Palestinians, all very welcome, are still a small part of the population of the Bay Area. As we know from the excellent calendar on this website, WHICH COSTS MONEY SO PLEASE CONTRIBUTE TODAY ANYTHING YOU CAN (and I am not connected to this website; I just appreciate its existence), even $10 from each person who reads or posts anything on this website should help finish the fund drive as TODAY, FINALLY, WE HAVE REACHED THE HALFWAY MARK AFTER 5 WEEKS OF BEGGING FROM THE THOUSANDS OF READERS OF THIS WEBSITE); tonight there is a protest at the opening of the gay film festival of the sponsorship of this excellent and needed film festival by the Israeli consul. Jews, Arabs and everyone else will be there, gay and straight, to protest this insult to the gay liberation movement. SUNDAY IS THE LABOR ACTION DESCRIBED ABOVE and is of course crucial as the whole issue of Israel CONCERNS PROFITS. It is the profits from the shipping industry that helps keep afloat the US military base in the Middle East to protect US oil profits in the Middle East called Israel, AFTER OUR TAX DOLLARS TO THE TUNE OF $6 BILLION A YEAR. IT IS THE PROFITS OF THE WEALTHY ZIONISTS MADE FROM OUR LABOR THAT MAKE POSSIBLE THE ILLEGAL SETTLEMENTS IN OCCUPIED PALESTINE. THESE PROFITS EXIST BECAUSE LABOR IS ONLY 10% ORGANIZED IN THIS BACKWARD COUNTRY. This whole horrible scene we know as Zionist Israel would not exist if the American workingclass were even 35% organized, and better yet 100% organized. ALL PROFITS ARE OUR STOLEN LABOR. WE HAVE JUST BEGUN TO FIGHT. We have to rebuild a labor movement after 62 years of sleepwalking that has allowed the current occupation of Palestine to fester like a running sore and make the changes needed so that we have a socialist secular Palestine in a socialist, secular world.
We are 100% volunteer and depend on your participation to sustain our efforts!
