In the type of economy that community currencies seek to nurture,
where horizontal connections among individuals and small groups within
a community predominate, the ability of individuals and small groups
to produce the goods which the community demands is key. Thus we are
happy to host Marcin Jakubowski of Open Source Ecology
(openfarmtech.org) as he presents his talk, Economy In a Box, at
Noisebridge, 2169 Mission St., at 7 pm on 15 June.
His summary:
I will discuss a subset of the Global Village Construction Set as it
pertains to the creation of a prototypical, minimum but sufficient and
robust economy based on ubiquitous, local resources. This includes
resilience in the basics: food, fuel, energy, housing, and technology.
(The tools in this subset and/or its direct products therefore could
provide suitable backing for a local currency.) I will propose an
economic analysis of such a program, and demonstrate its feasibility
and replicability using proven and existing technologies.
About the roundtable:
The format of this meeting is to discuss currency projects
(established and conceptual), mingle and ponder currency theory, with
an extended focus on a particular project to change each month. Please
bring food/beverages to share if you can. 6:30pm - intro to BACE, get
to know each other, mingle, etc.. 7pm - check-in and project
roundtable (each person gives a brief status update and requests
feedback/support if needed). 7:30pm - focus on one project 9pm -
social time either at meeting location or off to a bar/tea house, etc.
Time: 7pm - 9:30pm.
Location: Noisebridge, 2169 Mission Street, 3rd floor, in the back
classroom, San Francisco.
