Demonstration to end mutilation of Australian sheep

Date:
Monday, June 14, 2010
Time:
12:00 PM - 1:00 PM
Event Type:
Protest
Organizer/Author:
Ann Cashell
Location Details:

We are at a key juncture in our campaign to end mulesing mutilations of tens of millions of lambs every year in the Australian wool industry. Mulesing is a barbaric mutilation used by farmers in Australia in a crude attempt to prevent flystrike, a condition in which maggots attack sheep. Farmers cut corners by using this cruel method: They cut chunks of flesh—not just wool, but flesh—from the lambs' backsides with instruments that are similar to gardening shears.

We need as many people as possible to gather with us at noon on Monday, June 14th. This is an important opportunity to end mulesing mutilations. Australian government officials will be at the Intercontinental San Francisco Hotel to negotiate a trade agreement with the U.S. (and other countries) and we need everyone who cares about stopping cruelty to animals to seize this rare opportunity to show the Australian government how important this issue is to consumers!

What: Peaceful protest to end the mutilation of lambs in the Australian wool industry

When: June 14, Noon-1pm (please arrive early if you can)

Where: Outside the Intercontinental San Francisco Hotel at 888 Howard St in San Francisco. Less than a 10 minute walk from the Powell St BART station

***We are arranging transportation to the protest. Please let me know if you need any help getting to the event and we will get you there!***

There may not be another opportunity like this to put pressure on the Australian government and wool industry to end this cruelty. Please take the day off of work, take a long lunch break, do whatever you can to attend, and bring your friends, family, and co-workers. The lambs need you!
