Photos: M31 Free Palestine Action @ Powell and Market
May 31. On short notice hundreds of demonstrators gathered at Powell and Market Streets in San Francisco to protest Israel's deadly attack against a flotilla carrying humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip. Activists on the ships were carrying motorized wheelchair scooters, toys, educational supplies, and pre-fab housing materials - things barred from Gaza by the Israeli blockade.

San Franciscans reacted quickly to protest Israel's action. They were joined by South Bay and East Bay residents in a march that started in front of the Israeli Consulate, went past Union Square and culminated in a demo at Powell and Market. Other actions were planned for San Jose and Sacramento on short notice as well.
"Free Free Palestine!"
Bayan means "country" in Tagalog. Filipino-Americans in support of Palestine were amongst the crowd.

Two Israeli flags and one American flag were held by several pro-Israel counter demonstrators. They were far far outnumbered by the hundreds calling for censure of Israel.
