MUNI needs a "dedicated" source of funding like the Transit Impact Development Fee. The TIDF should reflect the tremendous profits and value that transit adds to the Large Commercial properties and Corporations in the the crowded Downtown Corridor and in newly developed areas like Mission Bay. This is a revenue source for transit that does not come directly from some section of the working class. The Committee on Jobs, (Big Business's pac), SPUR, Rescue MUNI, the City politicians, and the MTA Board\Management have colluded sine 1981 to undermine the concept of and the actual collection of the Transit Impact Development Fee. Expanding and collecting the Transit Impact Development Fee (TIDF) now is excluded from any discussion of transit budgets. Instead of defending themselves for "not paying their fare share", the Big Corporations are on the offensive; proposing cost cutting like attacking the Drivers' wages and benefits with the Charter Amendment and cutting back non-rush hour service.

The ruling elites control of the mass media kept the May 5th rally out of the main stream media. The May 5h Rally showed great unity of drivers and passengers. Instead, the media ran articles implying that if the drivers made concessions that the service cuts would not happen. This is a clear example of how the TIDF is "off the table."

Working class unity at the rally on May 5th is a step towards putting the TIDF back on the table. Ultimately, transit workers have the real power to disrupt corporate profits when they shut down "business as usual" in the Bay Area with job actions like strikes. Passenger support and action is vital so that any shut down is aimed at Corporate profits and the demand "Make the Big Bosses take the Losses!"

A driver made this poster and carried it on his bus in the morning. Lots of passengers congratulated him on fighting the service cuts. He joined the rally on his split.
