Just for once i would like to attend a KPFA or MECA event that's not a benefit . Either free or a very nominal door charge , like $5 . Why ? LIke many millions i have been laid off .!0 months and counting . I have a $1700 a month mortage but only receive $1600 a month on unemployment .Do the Math . I'm fast depleting any savings .
So why not ask distinguished Profs like Finkelstein to forego any speakers fees (I'm sure he makes well into the six figures at his day job plus royalities from his several books . )
Progressive organizations like KPFA in particular seem to think that most of their supporters are comfortable upper middle class professionals . When KPFA celebrated it's 5oth anniversity they had the conjones to charge a whopping $300 a person or $500 a couple !
Yes $15 door charge isn't remotely in that league but many of us are on a VERY tight budget .
So think of the working (or non working class ) and lower your ticket prices .
We are 100% volunteer and depend on your participation to sustain our efforts!
