Legalization Now! Stop Racist SB1070!
The Carlos Alvarez for Governor Campaign demands full rights for all immigrants—legalization now! Alvarez is a leader of the Party for Socialism and Liberation and a member of the Peace & Freedom Party.
Alvarez is the child of Salvadoran immigrants and understands the struggles of immigrant workers. He's organized and led mass marches calling for legalization. He's fought against neo-Nazis, the Minutemen, and racist politicians who try to divide workers by scapegoating immigrants.
Alvarez stands for workers’ unity and believes that no human being is “illegal.” He believes that the undocumented should have full rights, including the right to vote.
As California Governor, Alvarez will fight for immigrants by putting an immediate end to deportations and raids. We must do away with police checkpoints that target immigrant families. California will become a sanctuary state. Voting rights should be extended to everyone in California, regardless of immigration status. Every person in this state over age 16 should have the right to vote!
Alvarez said the following at a recent immigrant rights march, "We demand justice, dignity and equality for everyone. We demand legalization but we can't stop there—we must end exploitation and discrimination of all forms. We demand more workers’ rights, more union jobs, and access to affordable health care, education and housing for all. This is not out of reach. Our labor creates all the wealth in society—we deserve to reap the benefits. Sisters and brothers, we can win."
A resurgence in the struggle for legalization
Four years ago, millions of people across the country took to the streets to demand full rights for all immigrants in the biggest-yet upsurge in the immigrant rights movement. Now, things are heating up again as Arizona just passed the most anti-immigrant law on the books and with pressure mounting to hold President Obama to his promise to introduce immigration reform legislation.
This year, A broad community-based coalition of progressive, pro-immigrant organizations, and organized labor is calling for a massive demonstration on this Saturday, May 1, in the heart of downtown Los Angeles.
Alvarez represents the ANSWER coalition in the steering committee building for the massive May 1st march in LA. The Alvarez campaign will be doing outreach to the thousands of marchers on that day and getting people to register Peace and Freedom. The march in LA begins at 10am on the corner of Broadway and Olympic.
In LA and 350 cities across the country, hundreds of thousands of immigrants and supporters will come out on May 1st to march for immigrant rights. All out on May 1st!
Register Peace & Freedom and vote in the June 8 primary.
