Oakland Teacher Strike Solidarity Action

by Concerned Residents of Oakland
The night before the Oakland Teachers Strike, a group locked down all perimeter entrances to 20 Oakland Public High Schools, Charter Schools, and Middle Schools using glue. The actions were done in solidarity with the demands of the teachers of Oakland and in defense of Public Education. School doors were locked to ensure schools stayed closed during the strike and to stop scab labor brought in by the District administration.

We Demand:
* Resources be removed from excessive administration and private consultants and given back to students and the classroom!
* Maintain low class sizes so children and teachers will have more effective learning environments!
* Recruit and keep good teachers. Increase the salaries of teachers in Oakland!
* Respect our educators and the needs of students. Stop one-size-fits-all curriculum!

In solidarity,
- Concerned residents of Oakland

This looks like an attempt by an agent provocateur to hurt the teachers' cause. If the action is so great and 'in solidarity with the teachers,' why doesn't the person responsible use their name/

I am not not the person who did the action. My pseudonym is well-known amongst many people. I probably don't know the person(s) who did the action.

I resent the idea that anybody who does an activity that has been declared illegal by the powers that be must identify themselves or be "agents provocateurs". I'm sure their was a person when the Boston Tea Party happened who announced that they must have been provocateurs. We can debate the merits of this action, without stating something for which we have no proof. Obviously people who do secretive actions of this type would not identify themselves.

The poster who whined that whomever engaged in a different type of ''locked down ''action were ''counterproductive '' would have hated the Labor movement of back in the day .
Tacks on roads where scab vehicles are driving , sugar in gas tanks of those cars, windows smashed , inside equipment sabotaged , pitched battles with strike breakers and those escorting them across the lines (ie Cops . There were no Cop ''Unions'' allowed in Labor councils until the 70's .Even the most conservative unionists knew the police weren't their friends ! )
But things are so more evolved today right ? Oh yeah less than 13% of the working class are organized , layoffs and workplace closures are usually met with no militant resistance , the few strikes that occur are usually just ''settled '' not won . For example according to KPFA the Bakersfield Teachers just ended their strike with a ''victory ''. the 10% pay cut demanded by their School dist. was reduced to being only ''temporarily '' not '' Permanent ''.
So i won't loose any sleep over some minor sabotage .
