SubRosa infoshop has staffing positions available starting in May. If you've volunteered before, or were thinking about volunteering, now might be a really good time, as we will be training new staffers for the summer soon. Volunteering or staffing at the space is perfect if you are interested in being involved in a highly-social, engaging, egalitarian, anarchist project that will challenge you in a lot of ways.

SubRosa is open seven days a week, 8am to 8pm Mon-Fri, 10am to 8pm Sat and Sun. We have visions of a broad group of people coming and going, in this community space / cafe / bookstore, enjoying radical literature, events and shows, visual and participatory art, and working together on projects that create a new world rooted in anarchist principles.

As a volunteer, you'd help out around the space for some number of hours at least once a week. As a staffer, we are looking for people who can commit to taking one shift a week, and making that their own.

If you are interested in volunteering, email subrosa-staffing [at] riseup.net

About SubRosa: SubRosa is a non-profit, donation-funded space in downtown Santa Cruz for art and radical projects run by a collective of volunteers from the local anarchist community. It offers anarchist books and literature, gourmet coffee, performance and a weekly open mic, gallery art by emerging local artists, and a garden courtyard social space.

Can't you guys at least offer minimum wage? It's hard enough living in Santa Cruz, but to expect people to work for free is a little ridiculous.
by !!!
It's called volunteering for a reason. Many people do it. The place doesn't make enough money to pay wages, any money that goes into it stays into it and is spent on improving the space

SubRosa is an all-volunteer space and no one is paid. Everyone who "works" there does it because they are interested in seeing a space available for anarchist events and organizing. There is also a fair bit of art represented, with monthly gallery art, performances, shows, and a weekly open mic.

This is ridiculous and hypocritical in the extreme. You guys berate every other business for not paying a "living wage", denouncing them as greedy capitalists with no scruples, and then you won't pay people anything at all to work for you? Whatever, SubRosa. I used to believe. No more. So bogus.
We are 100% volunteer and depend on your participation to sustain our efforts!
