It's... THE YOO SQUAD! (Formerly the Yoo*Team). UC Berkeley's very own anti-anti-torture squad, sent to watch over John Yoo's Dungeon of Terror on Grizzly Peak, in the the Berkeley Hills.

On Sunday the 18th, there was a tea party outside of John Yoo's house. Tea and cookies were served. Justice was not.

Organized by advocate Cynthia Papermaster, the rally had about a dozen participants from a labour organization, a church group, People's Park and other facets of the community.

John Yoo was not present, but the John Yoo bobble head made its triumphant return in his place.

This tea party was a play on the newly popular "tea party" concept associated with conservative ideology.

The UC Police handed off the operation to the Berkeley city police, most of whom ended up fleeing from the scene as the news vans arrived.

Everyone knows that when right and left come full circle they agree on some issues. This does NOT make them good bedfellows. Here is why CodePink should rethink their alliance with Tea Party-ers.

The Tea Party movement emerged out of the ideological remnants of the Klu Klux Klan and the John Birch Society.

They don't like the US government and they think violence against the US government is okay. Witness speeches made in Minnesota and even in SF last Thursday.

Furthermore since the election of Barack Obama, they have emerged as a group that feels disenfranchised by the democratic process. How could an African-American win? goes their thinking. They feel they have lost their white privilege!
They are spreading disinformation that progressives and Democrats are in their movement in order to legitimize their goals.

They want to control immigration to a trickle (or completely close the borders).

We need to delegitimize the Tea Party people or we will have another Oklahoma City; witness 2nd right amendment demonstrations of April 19, held on the anniversary of the bombing of that city. There is huge cross-over between gun rights activists and Tea Party...CodePink, this is the OPPOSITE of the peace we seek.

Will people CALM down and stop being stupid.

The tea party was a joke about the Tea Party movement.

All you morons who can't get the joke need to shutup about the conservative conspiracy and how Bush is hiding underneath your bed.

Goddamn, I'm tired of posting things here because of comments like the one posted. Everyone is so busy complaining they don't have time to actually be active.

There's a world out there.

Surely you can understand why people worry it is not a "gag" when articles like above "CodePink extends an olive branch to Tea Party" are all over the net.

Yeah, just call fellow activists STUPID, that's the way to get them to join in actions. Works every time.

Seems to me CodePink had a problem with an April Fools gag April 2009. Women of Color Resource Center warned "next time you are going to pull a gag like the one where you said the Berkeley M.R.S. was closing, even IF its April Fools Day, let your allies know first."

And keep in mind that people surf through the internet quickly, are not necessarily familiar with CP's or other group's ideology, and may pick up the wrong impression. Your IN jokes may be misunderstood!

OKAY! You win! I'm secretly a Conservative agent! I love being a Republican! I have a poster of George Bush on my wall. I have a Sarah Palin autographed hockey stick, and today I wrote Carly Fiorina a poem about HP computers.

I'm living amougst Liberals to study their weaknesses, and reporting my findings back to base.

But don't tell anyone I'm a spy, who only posts on Indybay to confuse people.

oh gee wiz, and people wonder why the progressives can't get mobilized...

Just hoping CP will rethink some of their campaigns. Taking my activism elsewhere for a good reason.

Some people seem to be disgruntled that Codepink's Tea party joke might be misunderstood by some, and that they should take the Right-wing more seriously. Others believe that the tea party issue is blown way out of proportion by the media.

It's interesting to pose the question, where was the media when unprecedented numbers of people, significantly more than those at tea party rallies, protested at the the beginning of the the Iraq war?

It's also important to point out that we've seen virtually zero media coverage of the Obama administration's complete silence about crimes that were committed by Bush's regime, such as with Yoo giving the president the legal go ahead to implement a policy of torture.
