Mirant Plant continues to operate while Sophie Maxwell get shafted with her cronies.
The Mirant Power Plant continues to operate while Sophie Maxwell and her cronies get shafted - one more time. Sophie Maxwell thinks she will leave her termed out office - leaving a fake legacy - having shut two Power Plants. She had really nothing much to do with the closing of the Hunters Point jumping on the bandwagon at the last moment. And now she will have nothing much to do with the total closure of the Mirant Power Plant.
The Mirant Power Plant got a lease on life and will operate for sure for another year or so.
This issue came up when Siemen a well renowned company - met with some unexpected difficulties with its computer software more a Mother Board - that has difficulities converting - AC current to DC - in a large capacity.
This linked to the TransBay Cable bringing 400 MegaWatts of power from Pittsbury to Potrero - by the Mirant Power Plant where the connection will be made.
The difficulty was detected in January the the Trans-Bay cable that has touched ground from Pittsburg at Potrero was to have gone on line by now - at least the testing part of the project. The recent hitch - will be fixed, but right now it does not seem - that the problem will be fixed in a giffy.
Sophie Maxwell the dumb Supervisor representing District 10 has made several big mistakes. First she opted for some Combusiton Turbines working with Barbara Hale and the fired Susan Leal to generate some inner-circel electricity. At every point this plan was so loose and ill conceived that it fell by the way side. At this time she was against the TransBay Cable - refusing to even learn some about this project.
Recently the Combustion Turbines were sold for more then $11 million. Sophie got shafted becuase the Big White Boys took her for a ride.
Sophie Maxwell joined the crooked Mayor Gavin Newsom with Mirant Directors for a photo opportunity. Again pandering to the cameras but NOT understanding how Spin and the Media could come to bite her - in her big butt. Mirant is now taken over by another company - and so any Memoranda of Agreement - is at best null and void.
The photo opportunity was some put up show that Mirant would be closed last year. This never happend and will not happen for another year and a half.
Mirant says it wants to close down the Power Plant on 3rd and 18th Street. But, really it does not have to unles California Independent System Operators (CAISO) authorizes it to.
Right now the TransBay Cable was to have been in place and tested. This is not possible because Siemens that has a contact with the TransBay Cable cannot fulfill its obligation. The reason technical difficulties that Sophie Maxwell with her tiny brain fails to comprehend.
At one point during the meeting before the Land Use, April 12, 2010 - Sophie Maxwell blanked out, calling the TransBay Cable - an extention cord or something. Ed Harrington had to prompt to her - that it was called the TransBay Cable.
Sophe Maxwell has NOT been truthful with the community at large. Especially the Bayview Hunters Point community. Espanola Jackson, Michael Boyd, Lynne Brown, Francisco Da Costa have been on the fore-front to shut down the Hunters Point Powerplant.
We know this because we fought for the closure at the Stake holders meetings held at 77 Beale with others like Steve Moss and occasionally Joe Boss (who is on any project because of the money). Made several trips at our own expense to Folsom and Sacramento advocating for the people. Never saw the likes of Sophie Maxwell or Linda Richardson around.
CAISO has explained to Sophie Maxwell its resposibility is to see that there are no Black Outs. Right now the City consumes about 960 MegaWatts of electricity. We need to import roughly 90 MegaWatts during Peak Season - and we can do this by importing from other area. Mostly from the south through the Jefferson-Martin - transmission line.
From the north we will be able to import about 400 megawatts when the TransBay Cable is in place and tested. When this happens - we will have excess electricity and hopefull this will happen with nine months or so.
Pacific Gas and Electric has been excellent in the interim to upgrade its inner-circle transmission lines. It has also agreed to upgrade its transmission lines to Potrero to accomodate the about 400 MegaWatts of Electricity that the TransBay has promisied to deliver.
Sophie Maxwell was NOT in favor of the TransBay cable - but, under pressure agreed to go with the flow. Sophie Maxwell and her cronies the Power Task Force that did nothing for 10 years - a bunch of idiots that beat a horse dead, revived it - beat it dead again and rivived it. Sophie Maxwell watched the Dog and Pony show - and today - has been SHAFTED and rightly so - together with the good for nothing Power Task Force all annointed by Sophie Maxwell.
Bottom line Mirant has a lease on life and will continue to be paid by CAISO for operating the Mirant Power Plant. CAISO has to adhere to a principle called Reliability Must Run - a concept that Sophie Maxwell cannot comprehend.
The principle simply means - given the normal circumstances - CAISO must maintain a stead flow of electricity with NO Black Outs. Right now - given the current circumstances - Mirant is a back up and the only source for inner-City generation.
The constituents more from the Bayview want Mirant closed too.
But, the cronies from Potrero Hill mostly White Folks, close to Sophie Maxwell to whom she panders as opposed to the constituents of Bayview Hunters Point - where she is despised. Three attempts have been made to RECALL her - and these attempts under difficult circumstances - reveal to those reall concerned - the abject failure of this good for nothing, inept, ignorant, and very arrogant Black woman.
An electrician by trade - imagine her calling the TransBay Cable - " an extension cord or something". Good riddance of very bad rubbish when she shortly leaves office.
Manho Young who works for Pacific Gas and Electricity (PG&E) is our residential expert on Transmission Lines and Substations.
Three times Sophie Maxwell called him to the podium and as much as Manho Young tried to explain to her that only when all things were in place in the TransBay Cable area and jurisdiction -and an initial testing - and OK given by CAISO. Only then, could Manho Young assertain the reliability of the PGE upgraded transmission line and the its role and link with the TransBay Cable. Until then he could only surmise - and the poor, idiotic Chair of the Land Use, Sophie Maxwell could not get it.
The woman is pathetic - when she wants it - she wants it bad - unfortunately that is not how one deals with electricity and a major project that has because of circumstances beyond our control - and the difficulty Siemen has interjected with its conversion Mother Board - delayed the complete shut down to Mirant that now has been sold to another company.
Siemen is paying daily a fine to the TransBay linked to contractual obligations - so it is not as if - this is a joke or something to be taken lightly.
In the meantime Mirant is a happy camper getting its DOLE from CAISO. Sophie Maxwell and her cronies from Potrero Hill and the antiquated Power Task Force - continue to lick their chops.
When will our City learn to be educated on issues and NOT bite more then it can chew.
