Connect...with Real Homeless Civil Rights

Connect...with Real Homeless Civil Rights...
“No” to the Downtown Crackdown
projectconnectflyer.pdf_600_.jpg
Santa Cruz authorities in the “laid back” “liberal” Surf City
...still make all nighttime outdoor & vehicular sleeping illegal for its 1500-2000 homeless population.
...has emergency walk-in shelter for less than 200 people each night, ½ that amount on April 15.
...prescribe a $98 fine for those who sleep or cover up with blankets at night outside, and a larger
fine for those who “camp” at any time. Camping, according to the SCPD, is now sleeping beside your property.
...make three “unattended” citations a misdemeanor punishable by up to $1000 fine & 6 months in jail...

I just saw in the Metro that:

-You were voted worst villain in Santa Cruz.
-Homeless the worst trend.
-Coonerty the most honest/respected politician.

I have to laugh, and agree at the same time. Clearly, this shows that the protestations that you and Beck regularly proclaim that "most people agree with us but the media just denies that fact" or "they aren't aware of the facts"....are once again exposed as wishful fantasies on your part.

I respect your opinion and your right to hold them, but I don't respect your tactics and continuous lies regarding how widely shared they are.

....carry on, that is all.

...and Robert definitely isn't down for that.

It's obvious from the title that Robert Norse is taking a jab at Project Homeless Connect. On the one hand we have an event that made a real difference in the lives of the homeless. Connecting people with services, supplies, ways to attain identification, banks, jobs, and family makes a very real contribution towards helping those less fortunate end their homeless state. It helps them find their path off the street. On the other hand we have an organization that has made no real contribution to improving the quality of life for the same group. And that organization does nothing except irritate those that can help. And let's face it, HUFF's irritating tactics have, if anything, made the experience of being homeless in Santa Cruz more difficult by alienating the otherwise good intentions of our overall community. They have put a bad face on the issue of homelessness.

I already know the response to my post. Robert will insult me and call me a bigot. Then he'll go back to doing the same thing as always. As is the result of all HUFF's endeavors, nothing will change.

I appreciate you and others who are doing actual CONSTRUCTIVE work to help our homeless community, and agree with you 100% that Huff has only served to diminish the empathy or interest of the average citizen towards homeless issues.

Robert says "...still make all nighttime outdoor & vehicular sleeping illegal for its 1500-2000 homeless population.
...has emergency walk-in shelter for less than 200 people each night, ½ that amount on April 15. "

Robert uses the number of homeless in the county

He compares it to the number of shelter beds in the city.

Why not compare the number of homeless in the city/county to the number of beds in the city/county?

Becky says that only 30% are really out on the street.

So wouldn't that mean the real number of people looking for beds is 450-600 in the county?

One center alone , the HSC, can sleep 140 people per night 365 nights a year.

So the claim that there are only 100 beds after April 15th is not true.

There are more services available than what is at the HSC.

Stop manipulating the truth! Stop spreading fear!
