Oakland Hip Hop artists and leaders are coming together with youth to organize a first-of-it's kind-peace walk March 27th, 2010 at Lake Merritt in Oakland, CA during the Oakland Running Festival Twilight 5k. Hip Hop United (a concerned group of hip hop artist dedicated to ending violence) is working with youth from the Ella Baker Center's Heal the Streets Fellowship to organize the peace walk in honor of all homicide victims in our area.


Hip Hop Artist Organize Peace Walk on Heal of Anniversary of Oakland Police Killings

OAKLAND, CA- Oakland Hip Hop artists and leaders are coming together with youth to organize a first-of-it's kind-peace walk March 27th, 2010 at Lake Merritt in Oakland, CA during the Oakland Running Festival Twilight 5k. Hip Hop United (a concerned group of hip hop artist dedicated to ending violence) is working with youth from the Ella Baker Center's Heal the Streets Fellowship to organize the peace walk in honor of all homicide victims in our area. The peace walk comes on the heal of the anniversary of the Oakland police killings. The peace walk is an arm of of Team Ella Baker in the Oakland Running Festival.

“We created Hip Hop United to develop solutions that face the Hip Hop generations," shared Shawn Granberry, CEO of watchiphop.com. "You can not solve violence with out having the block mayors at the table. We represent the streets and we need to be a part of the solution.”

The peace walk will cover the 5k course of the Oakland Running Festival on March 27th, 2010 at 6:30 pm. Along with an local all-star cast of hip hop artist we are organizing host of friends, fans, local officials, ministers, youth organizations, community activist organizations and people who want to promote and work for peace to walk with us. The peace walk is a show of solidarity and a commitment to work together towards solutions that end senseless community violence.
