Parents and Families from Monroe Elementary School and others join together to Demand Budget Process is Slowed and Alternative Cuts are Considered.

WHAT: SFUSD is facing $113 Million in education cuts and students, families and teachers want better, more equitable ways to allocate our scarce resources. Monroe parent leaders and the San Francisco Organizing Project have created the Children’s Allocation Team (CAT) and an alternative budget proposal to prove alternative cuts can be made. SFOP, Monroe and the CAT want to partner with the District’s Resource Allocation Team (RAT) and ensure budget cuts are equitable, transparent and reflect the priorities of parents and students.

WHO: Dozens of teachers, students and families from San Francisco Unified School District’s (SFUSD) Monroe Elementary School and other district schools.

WHEN: Friday, March 12, 2010 11:30 am

WHERE: In front of the SFUSD 555 Franklin at McAllister

WHY: SFUSD comprehensive budget reform must take place over the next few months and there is a lot of work ahead. The District's proposal to make up the $113 million deficit on the backs of students and teachers is unacceptable. Cuts must be kept away from the classroom. The community is committed to work with the District on real reform - more thoughtful cost-cutting solutions and ensuring our children come first and are guaranteed the best and highest quality education we can provide.

Editors Notes: Teachers, students and parents from throughout San Francisco will be available for interview – in Spanish, English and Cantonese.
