UCLA MURPHY HALL IS OCCUPIED BY 300 students and campus workers!
For Immediate Release:
UCLA MURPHY HALL IS OCCUPIED BY 300 students and campus workers! We are sitting (and drumming) outside the Chancellors office. We will not leave until the Chancellor comes, faces us in person, listens to our demands, responds, and expresses his plan to take steps to meet them NOW!
We invite everyone to join us and support public education at UCLA CAMPUS, Murphy Hall.
Our Demands Are As Follows:
UCLA Fights Back Coalition Demands for March 4th -
(1) Lower Fees, Rescind Program Cuts, and Stop the Privatization of UCLA!
- Reverse the 32% fee hike.
- Reduce class sizes.
- Stop the push to move classes online.
- End the Humanities restructuring project.
- Do not increase out-of-state enrollment.
(2) End Racist and Anti-Immigrant Policies and Practices at UCLA!
- Change the university admissions policy to increase Black, Latina/o, Native American, and Underrepresented Asian student enrollment.
- Provide financial aid to undocumented immigrant students who need it.
- Do not charge differential fees by campus or department.
- Make a verbal and written commitment to the 1960 California Master Plan.
(3) Institute Shared Governance, Democratic Participation, and Budget Transparency!
- Stop the formation of closed administrator- or faculty-only restructuring committees.
- Institute fair and equal student and worker representation on campus governance bodies and administrative committees.
- End policies and practices that violate students’ and workers’ right to free speech and assembly on campus.
- Create a free, unregulated student-worker event and organizing space on campus.
(4) Reverse the Worker Layoffs and Furloughs!
- Rescind the furloughs for workers who earn less than $40,000/year.
- Reverse the layoffs of lecturers.
- Stop replacing graduate student instructors with readers.
- Restore sections to large lecture classes.
- Restore Covel Writing tutors.
