Press Conference
Date-Time:
Monday March 1, 2010 8:00 AM
Place:
US Labor Department, San Francisco District Office-Office of Labor-Management Standards
90 7th St. Suite 18-100
San Francisco, CA 94103

Bay Area Bricklayers BAC Local 3 members and Hodcarriers LIUNA Local 166 will be having a press conference and picket line at the Northern California offices of
the US Labor Department OLMS at 90 7th St. San Francisco on Monday March 1, 2010 at 9:00 AM to expose the systemic failure to enforce labor laws protecting workers from retaliation due to union
activity and also the failure to prosecute malfeasance and theft.
The NLRB Office Of Labor-Management Standards Western Region has refused to prosecute any union official or officer for threatening or retaliating a rank and file union member for protected
labor activity. They are responsible to enforcing Section 610 which provides criminal penalties for such activity. Despite many complaints from workers about retaliation for protected union activity,
the agency which is responsible for such prosecutions has failed to initiate any prosecution for 5 years or the entire time that the agency has had responsibility for enforcing this section of the labor code.
In addition they have refused to enforce proper reporting of the LM2's. In the case of LIUNA Local 166, numerous false statement have been included in their documents and have not been rectified.
The agency refuses to release a list of all the complaints under this statute for enforcement action.
Members of the Bricklayers and Hodcarriers will provide testimony about the failure of the Office Of Labor-Management Standards and it's director Jennifer Bergschneider and other staff to enforce the
law equally.
