Ras K'Dee is a Native Calfornia Pomo/African American Musician who is the co-founder and Director of a Native youth media orgnaization called Seventh Native American Generation (SNAG). He leads weekely workshops with Native youth and co-hosts the Radio Program "Bay Native Circle" on 94.1 in Northern California. His visit to UCSC brings his music and his work as an activist, including a presentation on "Indigenous Youth Delegation to Palestine". According to Ras, "there are lots of conenctions between the indigenous communities in the United States and the Palestinian community. His six-member band lays down a relentless groove that's a blend of hip-hop, reggae, ska, rap, salsa, and Native American chants, all accompanied by lyrics worthy of the finest spoken-word performance that call on a long list of civil rights heroes, from Cesar Chavez to Malcolm X and addresses issues like native resistance, environmental pollution, and the corrosive affect of drug culture on disadvantaged communities, all the while encouraging listeners to dance and celebrate life.
