Live Week at UCB Wheeler Hall Solidarity with SFSU Occupation, 12/9/09: photos
On the evening of Wednesday, December 9th, 2009, students inside the open occupation at UC Berkeley's Wheeler Hall watched video from the still-ongoing-at-the-time occupation of the Business Building at San Francisco State.
Less than six hours after these photos were shot, at about 4am on Thursday, December 10th, police raided the occupation at SFSU. Over 30 people were arrested inside the Business building (renamed Oscar Grant Memorial Hall by students) and outside blocking 19th Street in San Francisco.
About 5am on Friday, December 11th, police raided Wheeler Hall and arrested 66 people. Shortly after 11pm on December 11th, eight people were arrested in the vicinity of a protest action at the chancellor's residence and charged with multiple felonies (including yours truly who was documenting the action, hence the lack of timeliness in publishing these photos). The DA did not pursue charges against any of the eight due to a complete lack of evidence.
Cross-campus student solidarity and the struggle for public education continues... Shortly after midnight on January 31st, San Francisco police and fire marshals raided a benefit party for student arrestees from recent campus occupations. The party was organized by students from SF State, UC Berkeley, UC Santa Cruz, and UC Davis, to help raise money for fines issued during last semester's spate of demonstrations. Eleven people were arrested, and to date one is still in custody on felony charges.
