KPFA LSB VICTORY? For ICR and the listeners or just ICR?

by Observer
I went to the recent KPFA LSB meeting and was very disappointed in the new majority. What happened to all the ICR promises, "we will make it better"?
The ICR folks seemed unorganized with some voting with Concerned Listeners and others not? And the Chair they elected has no idea how to chair such a meeting and no knowledge of Roberts Rules. What kind of a "progressive group" would pick such an incompetent chair? Is there something unspoken? Did the elected chair have some leverage or some debt owed by ICR? Is ICR starting to act like the Concerned Listeners? Shouldn't the chair be picked based on the ability to properly chair a meeting? In the history of the LSB there has been only one competent chair in my opinion, Richard Phelps, and sometimes he seemed too soft on the entrenched, and I didn't even see him at the meeting? Some how the incompetent seem to rise to the top at KPFA. Lemlem as a perfect example, and the competent ones move on. Why?

Isn't the chair one of the folks that were trying to get Henry Norr disqualified for some reason, as the rumor goes? Is there any truth to that rumor? If it is true what was the reason? If so why would the ICR elect a chair that was trying to off one of their most reliable and consistent members? And why would some of their members vote to re-elect the officers? From what I understand the Concerned Listeners chose to boycott the December meeting. So why should they get a second chance? On the positive side, if that happens maybe they can elect someone who has a clue on how chair a meeting.

Very disappointed so far and looking for answers, reasons or explanations.

"...too soft on the entrenched."

Yes, please, pull everything out by it's roots. And plow salt into the soil for good measure! ;-)

I tend to agree with much of the post . The ICR is too centrist . As another Non ICR candidate said the December LSB meeting decided fair and square who the officers were. Why re do anything ?
The Chair should have ruled CL honcho Daniel Siegel's motion out of order . It didn't look good . The CL seemed to have their shit together and the ICR did not .
It would be good to have a Town Hall meeting to discuss all of this and how to really save Pacifica .

The Observer is right. Phelps was a great chair. While he was chair he ran the meetings properly and always took advise from parliamentarian Brian ET, the CL operative on the KPFA board on how to run the meetings. We need Phelps so he can take over as chair again and start to listen to those who know how to run meetings. Maybe his entourage and followers "Peoples Radio" can demand a new election so Phelps can take his proper place as chair of the KPFA Board. We want more meetings run by our great mediator and fiery lawyer Richard Phelps Esq.

Phelps ain't a '' Guru '' or ''savior''. He did do a decent job as chair .
This isn't about personalities . The question is what needs to be done to save our network . It is going downhill. This crew of Old Stalinists with a couple of 20 something careerists thrown in called the '' Concerned LIsteners'' aren't even the problem , they're just a sympton .

Ditto "ain't no guru' and "soft on entrenched"

We must out the mean spirited entrenched staff, and teach young, self serving careerists who are ringing the life out of KPFA and the Pacifica network that the pacifists' dream of peace, community and communication will not be turned into a radio station lacking depth, meaning or purpose without a grinding fight by the people who love KPFA and seek to perpetuate its mission and believe in its dream.

Buy, read and apply Roberts' Rules of Order, but don't rush to exalt, elect and install someone who has the language skills but shows a willingness to compromise principles and feed false information to the press to curry political coin. Be on guard against those who employ eloquent language, smiles and charm to skew the truth with a veneer of selfish motives and generate self serving actions. You will know them by their deeds; "Let's meet and discuss a way to make our enemies responsible for the troubles to come...". BET E-mail, Memorandum to Management to request Saturday meeting, 2006.

Why haven't the ICR leaders or members answered these questions? What are they hiding? Who makes the policy for ICR? I saw a post during the election about the ICR candidate ranking not being done by a democratic vote? Is that true? Who did the ranking? Who would rank Sasha Futran ahead of Henry Norr and why? For some reason Futran seems to get special treatment above and beyond what she deserves, why? Don't we listeners have a right to know how the ICR political sausage was put together and who controls the ingredients? I won't be voting for any of their folks next time unless I get some answers.

Uh, I was kidding about the roots and the salt.

Well, here's little "Observer" again, another with another nasty. Unfortunately, I don't have the time to respond to all posted here, beyond, saying Observer can't count in terms of where I was on the slate. Perhaps"observer" was the one that placed the quarter page ad, though, in the Berkeley Daily Planet that tried to make it look like I wasn't even supposed to be voted for and wasn't on the iCR slate and that it was an ICR ad. It wasn't. ? Or perhaps "Observer" was the person who suggested it?

Or perhaps "Observer" needs a good eye exam among other medical attention.

Love ya,
Sasha
