Occupation in Stockton a Success - Eviction Halted

by repost
California Valley Miwok Tribe Occupation Success - Eviction Called off for 30 Days
indigenous-resistance.jpg
This just in, lawyers for the California Valley Miwok Tribe have just notified us that the bank has buckled and granted the tribe another 30 days to pay their bills - thus stalling the eviction. Local sheriffs have thus announced that they will not be evicting the house. Thus, large scale public resistance to the eviction of a foreclosed home in the center of the foreclosure crisis has been a success. The struggle is not yet over. In 30 days, we may need to occupy again, but for now, we have won.

SOLIDARITY WITH THE MIWOKS!
FREE THE LAND!
OCCUPY EVERYTHING!

Why does Stockton want another empty house, anyway?
It has one of the highest rates of foreclosure in the country, after Victorville or the Phoenix suburbs. Do they really think a bunch of people with money are going to move into Stockton and buy any of these places?
One of the realities about the foreclosure situation is that the banks are ignoring a long list of people who stopped paying on a mortgage in Southern California, while they deal with the first wave. They don't even have the resources to guard empty houses against strippers, and to do the legal paperwork, so they're going to be doing this for the next couple years.
After prices finally fall enough (and rents/prices have not fallen to market in the pricier Bay Area or Los Angeles ), then it won't be expensive for the tribe to basically move into a house down the block for a fair value.

As of October 28, 2009 (the most current stats I could find), this was the ranking of cities for most foreclosures:

1. Las Vegas-Paradise, NV 5.13% of homes
2. Merced, CA 3.72% of homes
3. Cape Coral-Fort Myers, FL 3.67% of homes
4. Stockton, CA 3.53% of homes
5. Modesto, CA 3.39% of homes
6. Riverside-San Bernardino, CA 3.37% of homes
7. Bakersfield, CA 2.88% of homes
8. Vallejo-Fairfield, CA 2.85% of homes
9. Reno-Sparks, NV 2.67% of homes
10. Port St. Lucie, FL 2.63% of homes

So Stockton is still in the top 5, currently sitting at #4
Solidarity from MN. Keep up the Occupation and the fight. I hope you win this land back and hope to push it even further my occupying and taking back more of the tribe's land.
I am encouraged by the Miwok success and share their struggle with others.

More homeowners in foreclosure need to fight back. Go to your social justice communites, gather friends and family and fight back. The more that do so the harder it is for the Sheriffs to keep up.
We have been stalking our Mayor, local officials, and State Politicians to put a Moratorium on Foreclosures.

* The BANKS are NOT acting on Good Faith to negotiate and modify loans.

Indy Mac aka OneWest Bank out of Pasadena is one of the worst. IndyMac was one of the worst predatory lenders.

I hope these numbers still work for
One West Bank, Chairman Board of Director: Steven Mnuchin 212-301-8400

IndyMac/One West 800-669-2300 Direct message to CEO Terry Laughlin
select #3, then zero for operator, you probably will only be able to leave a message

there is an incredible woman, Leslie Parks, here who has been fighting IndyMac/OneWest and is also starting to see the light. She and 3 other women were encouraged by an activist, Rosemary Williams, who fought foreclosure and who didn't win her home back yet, but inspired others and took her all the way to Sweden to tell her story. It takes the bravery of the homeowner and the solidarity of others to fight back and it can be done.
