Exacerbated by the current economic crisis, the conditions in the African community are worsening, with health care almost non-existent, escalating unemployment and predatory sub-prime lenders causing record home foreclosures.
Uhuru Furniture raises money for programs like the Uhuru ‘Freedom’ Gardens, a network of community and collective gardens in the U.S. as well as two institutions that provide vital economic development for the African community, a professional recording studio and a licensed kitchen. These projects are model institutions that will be reproduced in every city in the U.S. and around the world.
