What is this fixation with the Golden Gate Bridge? And why are you walking on there in the winter when it is bitter cold and possibly raining, which means lots of wind and water? You cannot carry your signs so that they are visible on the bridge. There is no workingclass community there or any other community. It just connects upper middle class Marin and Sonoma Counties to San Francisco. As to your candlelight march at Union Square, why doesn't it start at 6 p.m.? December 31 is a Thursday, a work day. We may get off a little early from work, but usually not as it is the last day of the month, quarter and year. It does not have the hysterics attached to it that the Christian money season known as Christmas Eve does. Please stay in the workingclass communities as that is the base of any serious peace movement.

Are you seriously making the assertion that there are no working class people in Marin and Sonoma Counties? WTF dude? I am working class (born and bred, not that it makes any difference), and I grew up in both counties, residing in solidly working class neighborhoods within cities that had diverse class demographics. The stereotype of Marin being a middle class ghetto is always easy to shatter by pointing to Marin City, about half of San Rafael, the part of Mill Valley right by 101... In Sonoma County the town of Sonoma is about 3/4 working class, as is about half of Petaluma and at least 1/3 of Santa Rosa, not to mention just about all parts of the permanent residences along the Russian River. Idiot.

But I agree that a march anywhere near the Bridge is completely stupid, self-marginalizing, and unimpressive. Leave walking over the Bridge to the March of Dimes. Besides, since 9/11, all security on all the bridges in the Bay Area is paranoid crazy over the top. Chances are that any manifestation of politics will be suppressed quickly and definitively.

And New Year's Eve is another stupid choice. Who's organizing this? Powell/Market is a better spot, even if it's cliche.

"The West won the world not by the superiority of its ideas or values or religion, but rather by its superiority in applying organized violence. Westerners often forget this fact; non-Westerners never do.”
- Samuel Huntington, in his book The Clash of Civilizations

In this respect, as in others, Israel is the epitome of Western Civilization.
