Obama quietly backs the Patriot Act:

Obama is quietly following in the footsteps of his predecessor, President George Bush, in his support for one of our nation’s biggest violations of the Constitution, the USA Patriot Act better known as just the Patriot Act. The fourth Amendment was put into place to keep our nation’s security enforcers from abusing their power, making it illegal to search our homes, listen to our calls, or any other form of invading our personal life, without a warrant. The Patriot Act contradicts with the fourth amendment in almost every way. The only reason the Patriot Act is allowed, is because one of the parties, who’s life the government is prying into, has to be out of our country. So apparently if it’s out of our jurisdiction it’s ok.
The Patriot Act was created and put into action, on October 26, 2001, shortly after the Nine eleven attacks. That is why such a violation of our strict constitution was allowed, our government was scared about terrorism and how we looked fighting it. Our nation did not want to look like we were in any fashion going to allow such an act of terrorism phase us, we tried to appear strong and abrasive towards Terrorism to the world but while doing that we seemed weak and impressionable, due to the controversy of the Patriot Act. Especially since the act was passed due to pretty much fear. It’s no coincidence that it was passed right after one of the biggest terrorism attacks if not the biggest attack of terrorism on our country.
The Fourth Amendment is filled with laws that should not be broken, or tampered with. Laws such as: no search and seizures without a warrant, no tampering with phone calls or listening in without a warrant, the necessity of search warrants, and arrest warrants, all which are key to keeping our country in the fashion we know and love. The Patriot Act would allow our government and our police services to disregard all of these topics. The three revisions that Obama and his supporters have endorsed are going to allow the FBI to listen in on any phone conversation, read any email, or seize important Documents that may be necessary for counterterrorism. The act allows the FBI to use their importance and their title to intimidate and demand documents from whomever they want. And the FBI can criminalize anybody that they feel may have to do with terrorism, even on slim to none proof. This sounds like a scary breach of our privacy as a US citizen. Even if you are not involved with terrorism or anybody out of the country, you could still by chance get a call from a friend on vacation and be target by the FBI if they heard the wrong information. With the FBI power to get any sort of information they needed, and accuse anybody of terrorism they are a tough organization to deal with, and epically if their power by chance got increased, we might be seeing a world where the FBI could call you a terrorist if you don’t let them pry into your life and personal business.
The FBI gave us a little taste their newly found power, when they arrested a suspected terrorist named Najibullah Zazi. Najibullah Zazi is both a US citizen and an Afghanistan citizen, who had several red flags raised on him while trying to rent a car to take a road trip from the east coast to his home in Denver. Zazi is said to have had formal training in the Al Qaeda terrorist organization in fields such as Explosives and extensive weapon training. Zazi’s car was impounded for a simple parking ticket, and was searched by the FBI. In the car the FBI said that they found a computer with scans of handwritten bomb recipes. Zazi claims that these files were accidently downloaded onto his hard drive. On September 19th, 2009 Zazi and his father were arrested for lying in the manner of terrorism. The FBI’s main arguments against the claims that Zazi was wrongfully accused where that both him and his father were trained with Al Qaeda tactics, and Zazi had bomb information on his computer.
The Patriot Act has dwindled since its arrival after nine eleven, but it is still as effective and unconstitutional as before. It goes against our country’s roots and is in complete disregard of the fourth amendment. The argument for this act is the saving of American lives and prosperity of our country. It’s up to the American people to decide as to what’s more important our freedom or our lives, and clearly our president has chosen to keep us safe under any circumstance, and I am not quite sure what that may entail.
