October 17, anti-war protest in San Francisco

Thousands of protesters gathered at Civic Center Plaza to denounce the ongoing wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and the occupation of Palestine. After a brief rally there was a march through downtown San Francisco. Folk singer Faith Petric, 94, opened the rally.

Mike Casey is president of UNITE HERE, Local 2. His speech emphasized the huge cost of these wars and the negative effect they having on our country.

Cindy Sheehan gave a speech calling for action to stop the war makers, She stated: " Our symbolic acts have no effect on the war machine," She suggested that only direct action, such as, boycotts would be effective. Sheehan also stated she is moving to Washington D.C. to carry on the fight.
