Bicyclists to Save the Redwood Curtain leaving tomorrow!

by Jeff Muskrat (humboldtforestdefense [at] gmail.com)
This Friday, October 2nd at 8:45am, concerned citizens and redwood area activists will bike from the Arcata Plaza south along Redwood Highway 101 to raise awareness of the threats to our State Parks and the intentions of Caltrans to “RIP” a hole in our "Redwood Curtain" located within Richardson Grove State Park.

The Redwood Curtain Bicycle Run is an adventure open to the public for all ages. Camping will be included, but you must bring your own food and gear. Participants may join and depart from the ride at various points along the route. If you miss the start of the bicycle run on Friday at the Plaza in Arcata at 8:45am, you can meet up with them at Eureka Natural Foods at 10:00am and join in on the demonstration at Caltrans headquarters off Union and Wabash in Eureka at 10:30am. If you miss the Caltrans demonstration, you can catch them at Rohner Park in Fortuna at noon, and at 3pm in Scotia at Hoby's Market.

On Saturday, you can catch up with the riders at 9:45am at the start of the Avenue of the Giants Pepperwood exit. Following the Avenue of the Giants, they will be at Founder's Grove at noon, Williams Grove by 2pm.

Sunday is the best day for Garbervillians to join the ride, from the Town Square across from Chautauqua's Market at 10:45am. Can't make it for the ride? Well, drive on down to Richardson Grove State Park day use area by noon on Sunday to welcome the bicyclists with a pot luck lunch and protection ceremony for the Redwood Curtain. Do your part by bringing your van, bus, or truck to help shuttle a weary cyclist back north.

All are welcome to continue bicycling with ride organizers after the ceremony at noon on Sunday to San Francisco, and then to Sacramento to deliver petitions to the "Governator".

For more information and to sign the e-petition, please visit saverichardsongrove.blogspot.com or email humboldtforestdefense [at] gmail.com.

Please join us to stop Caltrans from destroying the natural heritage of the Redwood coast and to help support our State Parks!
