San Francisco City College SNAFU at Southeast Facility Commission, Dean Hunnicutt at fault

by Francisco Da Costa
The Board of Trustees linked to San Francisco City College made their appearance at 1800 Oakdale at the Southeast Commission Facility. The facility has a Director and a Dean, her name is Veronica Hunnicutt and she has sold out the community. San Francisco City College deems it fit to take over this COMMUNITY facility giving vague reasons - but for sure it has high jacked the community and flushed down the drain the principal purposes of the Southeast Commission Facility - situated in the Bayview and principally formed to help the community - especially those students that are challenged.
Yesterday, September 24, 2009 at 6 pm the Board of Trustees held their meeting at the Southeast Community Facility situated at 1800 Oakdale in the Bayview. The community was NOT informed and most of the people gathered at this meeting were folks that usually gather and I suppose are informed because they are on some sort of private mailing list.

I happen to know many of the Board of Trustees and some of them have been in place for too long. Like fungi some of them have no soul and consider the prestige of sitting on those chairs as being the primary purpose. Others, mean well but have to encounter STATIC when they want to do the right thing and speak the TRUTH. Bring about CHANGE and HOPE.

City College is not what some of us who knew it before was - things, have changed and with the drab leadership, the dire straits of the present economy, the Board of Trustees are there but not completely there - many of them having a hidden agenda.

Education is critical and those that pretend to be TRUSTEES better take their responsibility seriously. In the past City College as I said has fulfilled the aspirations of many a student. And I know for a fact that many of the teachers work hard and have the best interests of the students.

I know teachers from City College that volunteer at other institutions and do very good work. However, when it comes to the high jacking of the Southeast Community Facility primarily meant to focus on the disadvantaged community and the challenged students - I am at a loss for words.

This is a policy high jacking and it is ripe with intrigue and dirty politics.

In the 1970s there used to be a wrecking car operation right where the present Southeast Commission was built. The Federal Government insisted that the near by Raw Sewage Plant be upgraded and accommodate near by counties like Brisbane - as a result the community was given an option. They could opt to have some Open Space a Park or a Community Center.

The Community opted for a Community Facility complete with a Community Commission one that had clout. This was in the good old days when the famous Roger Boas was the City and County of San Francisco's City Administrator and had CLOUT. The present City Administrator is Ed Lee and has no clout - he does what the Mayor wants him to do.

The present Southeast Commission has no clout. The members serve at the pleasure of the Mayor of San Francisco. This has permitted corrupt forces to do as they please. The latest ploy, invite City College to take over the premises and treat the Community like dirt. This nonsense will be STOP if City College does not heed to this warning.

The community decided that this brand new facility would cater to the community and that must stand. For some time it did but some where along the line outsiders the likes of Veronica Hunnicutt who has never had the interest of the community sold out the community. Another individual who has done the same is Toye Moses - who purports to be the Facility Director and is paid by the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission - the primary agency that owns the facility.
The Director of the SFPUC is one Ed Harrington. The man responsible and to whom Toye Moses has to report one Tommy Moala who works for SFPUC.

Some years ago a gentleman who sacrificed hours catering to teach many students who had dropped out to complete their General Education Certificate. I was called to meet him and he explained to me how badly he was treated by the Dean of the Facility, Veronica Hunnicutt, who as I said before does not have the best interests of the community.

A couple of years later he gave up and his students still meet me and ask me why I could not have helped their beloved teacher. I was accompanied at this time by long time resident Espanola Jackson and John Nauer a leader from the Samoan community. The difficulty we had at that time was that the Director of the facility Toye Moses and the Dean of the College, Veronica Hunnicutt were adjoined at the hip and had their own operation going. Both these individuals did not have the better interests of the students and the community at large.

The SFPUC at that time has a different Director, Susan Leal and even though she knew what was going on - she decided to permit the sordid actions slide and now we really have a mess on our hands.

Toye Moses who hails from Nigeria has yet to accommodate to the needs of the Hunters Point Bayview community and what is pathetic he cannot communicate and be as ease with the students. Granted that some of the students who have dropped out have some issues - but only one trained can handle such issues. He does call himself a Doctor - and I have not investigated what Doctoral Title he has but know him for a long time - he is NOT fit to handle students and has very poor communication skills less Public Relations. This I know for a fact.

Veronica Hunnicutt does not live in the community and comes all the way from the Western Addition. She pretends that she has the better interests of the community but like Toye Moses she is only interested in her pay check.

For the last four years she has been on the pay roll of Lennar a Rogue Developer that has poisoned our children. Veronica Hunnicutt should focus on being the Dean of the College and the be very concerned about the Bayview Hunters Point community and the pressing needs of the student and adult population when it comes to Adult Education, programs like the GED, and other classes such as the Computer Repair Class that was shut down without any meaningful dialog and proper notice.

Computers were removed to a room without any permission and declared Electronic Waste. The Computer Repair Class with hands on instructions has helped many students. Many of these students are doing well for themselves. Many of these students are adults and still many of them did not find any meaning in their life - until they enrolled in this unique class. City College does not offer such a class and cannot afford the one on one teaching - so unique to this program and canceled Computer Repair Class.

Dean Veronica Hunnicutt spends more time as the Chair of the Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC) linked to Hunters Point Shipyard, having little if no knowledge about the Environmental Impacts an factors. I have attended some the CAC toxic meetings and the diatribe spewed at these meetings is sufficient to send any sane person to the hospital.

Veronica Hunnicutt for example has never in the past many years attended the Restoration Advisory Committee. A citizens body that monitors and advices the United States Navy on the clean up of the Hunters Point Naval Shipyard. Veronica Hunnicutt, has never attend the previous Bayview Hunters Point Project Area Committee meetings- regularly. Now, suddenly she is the Chair of the Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC) and the Chair of the Environmental sub-committee to the CAC with absolutely no experience and less qualification. All this because she is on the pay roll of Lennar. I consider this a conflict of interest and want the Federal Bureau of Investigation to come in and investigate this situation.

Veronica Hunnicutt's primary responsibility is to the Community and as Dean of the Southeast Facility Commission situated at 1800 Oakdale in the Bayview Hunters Point area.

There are one of two Board of Trustees at City College and one especially who was involved and backed Proposition G which for all practical purposes who backed by Lennar - a Rogue Developer. Lennar spent $5 million dollars on Proposition G and fought the community who spent about $5 thousand.

Lennar has been using the Community Facility at 1800 as and when it pleases. You all know about Ali Baba and the forty thieves - well in this case we have two Ali Babas - one Toye Moses and the other Veronica Hunnicutt. One worse then the other - both have failed the community and both should seek greener pastures - some where far way and leave the neighborhood.

At the meeting held on September 24, 2009 I was given an opportunity to speak and requested that the Board of Trustees and especially the Chair of the Board of Trustees, Milton Mark Jr. investigate the statements I made. Some of them I have covered in this brief article.

It is a crying shame that the Bayview Hunters Point community has now been completely bought out and sold out by corrupt agencies, individuals, but most importantly by Lennar a Rogue Developer. Lennar has all these conceptual plans but nothing really is happening. Joining this fiasco of sorts the high jacking of the Southeast Facility Commission and usurping the primary purpose of the Facility by San Francisco City College and its current Board of Trustees.

The Bayview Community must be told who is in charge of the Southeast Commission Facility? It must be told in clear terms what role City College plays at 1800 Oakdale? What is the difference between the Southeast Facility Commission and the role of City College and that of the City College at near by Evans Street and City College's other sister institution?

Lennar has defaulted on its Disposition and Development Agreement (DDA) linked to Parcel A. In a community that has responsible, educated constituents there would have been a hue and cry. In our community outsiders such as Toye Moses and Veronica Hunnicutt are on Lennar's payroll. They really should be educating the community but they are working with the Rogue Developer to destroy the community:

The few educational facilities in the Bayview have been compromised and fun fare meetings bring in the drab San Francisco City College Board of Trustees to the community without the real Bayview Hunters Point community, NOT being notified - sends a very bad signal and creates unwanted ANIMOSITY and TRUST issues.

The only decent Trustee I can trust on that Board is John Rizzo the rest just looking at them spaced out - tells me that these individuals needs a total blood and brain transplant. Some of them have been on the Board for years - please move on and disappear. Air the room and get rid of the FUNGI.

The Computer Repair Classes must be restored at the 1800 Oakdale Community Facility Commission. The building was built as a mitigation measure to serve the community not some jerks like Veronica Hunnicutt and Toye Moses - pandering to City College.

I know and have seen the hundreds of signatures on the petition that students who desire the canceled computer repair class have collected. Chancellor Dr. Don Q. Griffin knows about this case but less about the real history of the Southeast Community Commission Facility and even less about Veronica Hunnicutt.

This facility was never ever meant to be controlled by the San Francisco City College. One of the Board of Trustees, Chris Jackson may think so but he too must learn to respect the community. At one Town Hall meeting organized by Stop Lennar Action Movement (SLAM) he was told in very plain terms he is a sell out. He remains one.

I know some the San Francisco Board of Trustees among them Chair, Milton Marks Jr and Trustee Board Member John Rizzo. I know some of the others and others I do not want to know. I smell fungi and that is bad for health.
