Organic Tomatoes, Seven Different Kinds, 50 cents a pound
Join us for an end-of-summer tomato picking and a picnic at Mariquita Farm in Hollister. Our hosts, Andy Griffin and Julia Wiley, have an abundant crop of San Marzano, Beefsteak, Early Girl, Green Zebras, Mixed Heirlooms, Gold Slicers, Sun Gold Cherry & Washington Red Cherry Tomatoes.
DETAILS:
1. Arrive between 9:30 and 10 am - the farm is near Gilroy, about 90 minutes from the East Bay or San Francisco (directions provided upon reservation). No pets please.
2. Pick tomatoes and pay for your haul - just 50 cents a pound! Andy & Julia will also have a mini-farm stand set up with a selection of their other organic produce for sale at attractive prices.
3. Around noon, settle down in the shade for a light picnic lunch of sandwiches, Andy's roasted padron peppers, agua frescas and dessert. Andy will give a brief tomato talk about growing tomatoes in the 21st century.
4. Around 1:00 pm, head for home.
COST: $6 per person (includes picnic lunch).
Space is limited.
Click here (or email: slowfoodberkeleytomatoupick [at] gmail.com) to sign up. We will send you an e-mail confirming your reservation, and providing directions to the farm and additional details.
