Los Angeles KPFK Programmer Fernando Valesqeuz and KPFK Radio Activist Lawrence Reyes To Speak in The Bay Area
Los Angeles Pacifica programmer and former News Director Fernando Valezquez and KPFK community media activist Lawrence Reyes will be speaking in the bay area about the situation in Los Angeles at KPFK. The KPFK news department has been shutdown and their news show has been merged with KPFA and Spanish speaking community shows have been eliminated and replaced with "personality" type shows. Additionally there is no regular programming for the Korean American community and Iranian American community both of which contain over 1 million people from each community. They will also discuss their support for the community program councils in making decisions on programming.
This will be an opportunity for KPFA members and supporters to get a first hand report
They will be speaking at a forum organized by Voices For Justice Radio http://www.voicesforjusticeradio.org

Pacifica is in crisis with a declining listenership, financial losses and a growing top down centralized operation. In Los Angeles, the news department has been shutdown and the continued failure to bring new community programming on to the stations is one reason that listeners are being driven away. The arrest and beating of KPFA community broadcaster Nadra Foster at KPFA is a direct result of a management and their policies at the station. These actions do not represent the interests of the staff, the listeners or the community. This forum will discuss what is happening at KPFA/KPFK and Pacifica and a vision to rebuild the stations and the network to make it a vibrant and vital activist broadcast vehicle for the issues facing people in the US and internationally.
SPEAKERS:
Fernando Valesquez, Past news director and community programmer KPFK Los Angeles
Ralph Schoenman, Producer "Taking Aim" WBAI New York
Sureya Sayadi, KPFA Local Station Board member and supporter of VJR
Steve Zeltzer, Candidate KPFA Local Station Board VJR
Lawrence Reyes, Candidate KPFK Local Station Board and Supporter Of Listener's Resistance
