This Week in the North Bay

by Carl (impactpetaluma [at] gmail.com)
This week brings even more activity to Sonoma County in the form of meetings, mobilizations, and backyard presentations and puppet shows. From the looks of things, the social movement in the North Bay won't be slowing down anytime soon. Here is what's going on this week.
These are some of the activities going on this week in Sonoma County.

Monday: October 22nd Anti-police Brutality Protest planning meeting. 6pm @ Free Mind Media infoshop (546 Pacific Ave., Santa Rosa). Folks are organizing a massive nonviolent direct action at the offices of the Santa Rosa Police Department on the afternoon of October 22nd. These are open meetings and we encourage all people to come participate in this year's protest

7pm- Free Mind Media merger meeting (546 Pacific Ave.). Recently, Free Mind Media infoshop, Santa Rosa Food Not Bombs and O22 have merged into a more cohesive network of anti-capitalist groups and now meet together. All three groups have a lot going on right now, and we encourage people to come on by and join up with one or more of these exciting efforts

Tuesday: Mobilize support for Taser victim! Santa Rosa City Council, 5pm. Last week a 17 year old boy was detained, illegally searched, chased and eventually Tasered multiple times by Santa Rosa police. The reasoning: he had a small amount of marijuana. Now he and his many supporters are seeking to address the City Council about this gross violation of civil rights. We are asking everyone to join us this Tuesday at 5pm at the City Council meeting to speak out for justice in this case

Wednesday: IMPACT! meeting- 1251 Marian Way, Petaluma. These meetings are open to all. Come learn about our various programs, including Food Not Bombs, CopWatch, our work with O22 and the Committee for Immigrants' Rights, and more!

Friday: Climate Justice Roadshow Comes to Petaluma! 7pm. 1251 Marian Way. The Mobilization for Climate Justice is gearing up for several exciting actions in the Bay around climate issues, human rights and global justice, all leading up to the Copenhagen Climate talks in December. This will be a presentation (puppet show included) about local struggles for climate justice. Food will also be provided.
