LA City Council Committee Schedules 20 Medical Marijuana Hardship Hearings Aug 6, 2009

by Brett Stone (brett [at] brettstone.com)
The Los Angeles Planning and Land Use Management (PLUM) Committee of the Los Angeles City Council has scheduled 20 medical marijuana hardship exemption application hearings for a special meeting on Thursday August 6, 2009 at 10:00 AM.

The hearings have been a kangaroo court so far with the outcome seemingly predetermined before the hearings are even held. Look at the attached agenda for next Thursday's meeting, the collectives having hearings are already scheduled to appear before the full city council on September 1, 2009 as if the city has already mapped out their fate.

The Los Angeles Planning and Land Use Management (PLUM) Committee of the Los Angeles City Council has scheduled 20 medical marijuana hardship exemption application hearings for a special meeting on Thursday August 6, 2009 at 10:00 AM.

The meeting will be at Los Angeles City Hall, 200 N Spring Street, Room 350, Los Angeles, Ca, 90012.

The committee will also consider another 19 applications that have already been withdrawn from the process.

Of course September will be intersting in Los Angeles as the Interim Control Ordinance (ICO or more often referred to as "the moratorium") from September 14, 2007 expires its original 2 year term. The LA city council has voted to extend the moratorium an additional six months until March of 2010 but many wonder if that is a violation of California Government Code which prohibits emergency moratoriums to last more than two years.

While there is no video of the hearing next week (August 6, 2009) you can listen live on the internet at - http://lacity.org/lacity/YourGovernment/CityCouncil/CouncilCommitteeMeetings/index.htm - or via telephone at COUNCILPHONE, A dial-up system which allows the public to listen to live coverage of the Los Angeles City Public Meetings from any phone. The numbers may be used from any location, not just in Los Angeles. Dial up and listen in. Use any of these 4 numbers- (213) 621-CITY, (310) 547-CITY, (310) 471-CITY or (818) 904-9450.
