My American Healthcare Story .org Launch Party

by Katherine Daniel
The website, MyAmericanHealthcareStory.org, will officially launch at a free event open to the public at 111 Minna Gallery in San Francisco on August 1, from 5-9 pm. Attendees will be able to record their own story immediately at a video booth at the event.
San Francisco, Calif., -- July 28, 2009 – On Saturday, August 1, 2009 a group of ordinary Americans will launch MyAmericanHealthcareStory.org, the first ever user-driven online video forum to raise public awareness about the need for far-reaching healthcare reform. Founded by a handful of volunteer citizens who are unaffiliated with the healthcare industry, MyAmericanHealthcareStory.org operates on the notion that the case for comprehensive healthcare reform is best expressed by the collective voices and real-life experiences of normal Americans. Through inviting members of the public to record video testimony of real people and real experiences, MyAmericanHealthcareStory.org will help to clarify the often confusing and complicated arguments for and against healthcare reform that are presented by lobby groups, politicians and the media.

MyAmericanHealthcareStory.org is a user-driven website that will allow Americans to upload videos of their own stories, watch other Americans tell their stories, and find out who to contact in order to generate momentum for reform.

“We wanted to create a forum where Americans could watch, contribute and understand the healthcare experiences of other Americans – the need for reform needs to get out,” said Karen Mauney-Brodek, volunteer cofounder of MyAmericanHealthcareStory.org. “We hope this website will provide an opportunity for people who have been failed by the current healthcare system to play a part in the much needed reform that we need in this country.”
