Protest the vote to privatize Novato's Sanitary District this Monday 7/29
The Novato Sanitary District Board will vote to privatize its services this Monday, July 29th, at 6:30 p.m. in the Hill Community Room, 1560 Hill Rd., Novato, behind the Margaret Todd Senior Center.
The Novato Sanitary District, which is currently under two investigations for a lost of 500k of funds and by the EPA, is planning its final vote to privatize its sanitation services to a huge multinational company based in France this Monday 7/29. The company Veolia, which until a few years ago was a subsidiary of the multinational Vivendi, has also been fined for corruption and has experienced the severing of its water contracts in many cities around the world and investigations for spills in US cities (in Richmond and Burlingame for example) when services deteriorated after privatization. You can find a a number of articles in the Marin IJ about this and at the Alliance of Concerned Citizens of Novato's website http://www.accnovato.org where you can find numerous reports about the company on this website.
Attend the Novato Sanitary District Board meeting on Monday, July 29th, at 6:30 p.m. located at Hill Community Room, 1560 Hill Rd., Novato, behind the Margaret Todd Senior Center. Demand the board delay a decision on privatization provide for a more inclusive public review of the contract operations and maintenance proposals. The more people we have speak, the easier it will be to get the people's point across to the board; up to now they have ignored the hundreds of Novato and Marin residents that have spoken out against the deal - we need them to listen.
