The 11th Annual Allied Media Conference took was held on July 16-19, in Detroit, attracting over a thousand participants and grassroots media makers from around the country.
This year, Prometheus hosted a live radio broadcast from the AMC featuring the voices, beats, and stories of Detroit Summer, Elementz, Project South, Palestine Education Project, Bump, Community News Production Institute, Radio Rootz, Philadelphia Student Union, The Media Mobilizing Project, Making Contact, Free Speech Radio News, Various LPFM stations and more. The station also aired all of the pieces produced by participants in the AMC-FM workshop. Now, Prometheus has teamed up with producer Joaquin Uy from KBCS to produce a one hour "Best of" of the inspirational weekend, including highlights from Sunday’s closing keynote, “We Are Ready Now.”
More about the Allied Media Conference (from http://alliedmediaconference.org/):
The AMC is a gathering of people who believe that media needs to be produced from the bottom up. It is also an opportunity for you to advance your visions for a just and creative world. For the past 10 years, participants to the AMC have evolved the definition of media, and the role it can play in our lives – from zines to video-blogging to breakdancing, to communicating solidarity and creating justice. Each conference builds off the previous one and plants the seeds for the next. Ideas and relationships evolve year-round, incorporating new networks of media-makers and social justice organizers. The 2009 AMC will draw strength from our converging movements to face the challenges and opportunities of our current social justice moment.
