Come hear what's possible in a city in a discussion with local permaculture designers from the Applied Urban Ecology Division of Merritt College's Landscape Horticulture Department. See what's been incubating at Merritt's little 7-acre gem in the Oakland Hills for the past eight years. Christopher Shein will talk about the one acre edible forest garden built by students and also Merritt's Permaculture Design Certificate program, which is the most affordable PDC in the area. Hear about the new classes, such as "Edible Landscaping" and "Cycles of Land Use" (an urban bicycle safari through the wilds and urbans of the East Bay). Other classes include "Regenerative Design" and "From Dams to Greywater" taught by Nik Bertulis; "Natural Building" taught by Marisha Farnsworth, of which every class is making a new straw bale tool shed for a community garden, and "Mushroom Cultivation, Herbs, and Beneficial Beasts" with Ken Litchfield. More new classes are always sprouting up, so look for our fall, spring and summer courses. Teachers will be on hand to present a quick overview of their classes and to help navigate registration. Please call if ASL interpretation is requested, (at least 10 working days in advance).
