GMO CROPS PROVEN SERIOUS THREAT TO HUMAN HEALTH

by Betty
QUOTE OF THE WEEK:
"We demand the systematic publication of the results of these tests, which we could only obtain on a case by case basis by taking legal action... It [the study] brings to light a significant underestimation of the initial signs of diseases like cancer and diseases of the hormonal, immune, nervous and reproductive systems, among others... The health crises may be more important than the international financial crisis because of the lack of transparency of the regulators."

Now that all these studies on gmo's are saying they are detrimental to our health, the once defeated campaign for food labeling to identify gm ingredients is gearing up to make a run at Obama.

I should have the right to choose whether or not to eat food derived from gmo's. Monsanto has done a great job of fighting gmo labeling on food, including suing dairy farmers for putting "our milk comes from cows not treated with rBGH" on their packaging. Since no one outside of Monsanto could test the milk for safety without being sued for patent infringement, little testing was being done. Now that there is proof from a consortium of independent labs that gmo's are indeed harmful, we might have a better chance of getting labels on food packaging.

1.Further Evidence of Transgenes in Maize in Mexico
TWN BIOSAFETY INFORMATION SERVICE, 16 July 2009

Dear Friends and colleagues,

We wish to bring to attention a recent study which reported the results of an extensive survey for transgenes in landrace Mexican maize, using protein based tests for Cry1Ab (Bt) and EPSPS (Roundup). The study found transgenes in 3.1% and 1.8% of samples, respectively, from samples taken in 2001, 2002, and 2004.

AND THIS:
Monsanto's Round Up is the world's most popular herbicide, has been around for two decades (at least), is sold with 'round up ready' genetically modified seed, and causes birth defects.
