'the importance of a general strike which we need to put an end to the profit motive that is the cause of the budget "crisis" and war.'

Can somebody please provide an example where a general strike has "put an end to the profit motive"? General strikes can be useful in supporting an armed insurrection, as is in Nicaragua in 1979 (where the revolution stopped short of expropriation of the bourgeoisie, anyway!) and Cuba in 1958. But, without the armed overthrow and smashing of the capitalist state, the bourgeoisie can wait out a general strike better than the workers and oppressed can.
