Bevatron Banner Drop
On July 9th, autonomous individuals including Native American Elder Zachery Running-Wolf hoisted a banner decrying the public health risk associated with the U.C. Berkeley's destruction of the Bevatron particle accelerator. The banner was raised on the median strip at Adeline and Oregon streets, which is along the route for the transportation of the Bevatron's potentially hazardous irradiated concrete.

Beginning this month, UC Berkeley is planning to send 4,700 truckloads of radioactive waste down Adeline Street to Ashby Avenue and onto I-80, and then on to a hazardous materials storage site in Nevada. The radioactive dust and debris is also laced with asbestos and mercury, and the contaminated loads will be covered with only a canvas tarp.
The Berkeley City Council will reportedly be considering this matter on Tuesday July 14th, although details on the meeting are currently unavailable to the author.
