Honey bees are a joy to keep in the backyard for their honey, their pollination, and simply their presence. In the morning, you’ll learn the basics of beekeeping - how to get bees, what equipment you need, where to put the hive, how to extract honey and upkeep the hive. We’ll take a break for lunch and then visit a local backyard hive in the afternoon. The instructors will go into the hive and take out some honey. Then the class will participate in extracting the honey from the frames.
